Project description

Visual act designed, supplied and installed the Revolve Wagon and delivered components for up to 6 Side Stage Wagons for the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. A central Visual act Stage Control System is provided for control of all wagons.

The Revolving Stage Wagon can be divided into three parts for storage. The wagon is complete, with the exception of the wood floor, and provided with line navigation.

The Revolving Stage Wagons move along magnetic tracks in x and y directions.  Position in the direction of travel is measured with the help of friction encoders, which are lowered to the floor pneumatically when the direction of motion is selected.  The tracks are used both to control position perpendicular to the direction of motion and to correct encoder positions each time a track is reached or crossed.  Tracks are placed such that a track is always visible to the wagon when it is in an important position, such as aligned with a stage elevator.

The Side Stage Wagon components are provided with support for both laser and magnet tape navigation. The wagons will be operated on stage with laser navigation. The magnet tape system is designed specifically to allow the wagons to follow a magnet track in the transportation corridor.  Operation in the corridor along the track is only possible by use of the hand control.

All wagon components are mounted in cassettes that can be removed from the edge of the wagon.  The cassettes for the Side Stage Wagons and the Revolving Stage Wagons can be interchanged.  All cassettes can be fit with lasers.

The Visual act DUB 3000 drive units are used to provide sufficient traction and power in a compact space.  Each drive unit has two drive wheels that are individually pressed against the floor with pneumatic cylinders.  Manual valves are used to allow the user to lift drive units from the floor, allowing for redundancy.  Sensors on the drive units report when a drive unit is lifted, such that the control system will disregard errors from the drive unit.
